The National Union of Students in Norway (NUS-Norway) is the largest organization for students in Norway. NSO exists of 44 member unions from higher education institutions across the country, and represents approxamatly 200 000 students. NSO’s main goal is to ensure students’ academic, social and economic rights.

NSO was officially established on the 1st of July 2010, and is an umbrella organization for student democracies at the institutions of higher education in Norway. NSO is an politically independent organization which represents about 200 000 students and holds an important voice for the students of Norway. NSO works actively towards politicians, the bureaucracy, media, the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund and the managements at the institutions of higher education to improve the students’ academic, social and financial conditions.

NSO works to ensure that all students attending higher education should get the most out of their education, and that they should get the best education possible. Our most important principal is equal rights to education.

NSO’s goal is to be an important actor in all questions concerning higher education, both nationally and internationally. Political lobbying towards the government and others in the education sector is an important part of NSO’s work. Some of the fields we focus on are student finances, quality of education, improving the internationalization of higher education, equality, and student solidarity.

Voicing students’ opinions

NSO representents the majority of students in Norway, and this makes the organization an important voice in all student related issues and topics. NSO frequantly meets with the Ministry of Education and Research and members of the parliament. NSO is represented in a number of public boards and national councils dealing with higher education. In addition to being represented at numerous places nationally, NSO also representents students internationally, mainly through the European Students’ Union (ESU).

NSO is a diverse organization, built on long traditions from the two previous organizations, StL and NSU. NSO representents students within many different academic fields, and this gives NSO credibility to voice opinions on many different areas within the sector of higher education.

Together, students have the power to make changes!
